As I looked at the Oblivion mods in the Nexusmods I noticed how empty the Elder scrolls: Oblivion mod page was.

It is only sensible to look at Skyrim at this point for the Elder scroll gameplay need. As far as Skyrim goes, it's modding community is very much alive and bigger in numbers. I saw some very great quest, land, overhaul, graphic overhaul mods. No doubt, they are perfect for people who love to mod the game.
The big thing to remember is:
Newer games provide more gameplay mechanics that can be modded. That is why a musket mod works quite good in skyrim, but sadly looks very odd in oblivion (check the video below)
Like with most games, we have to accept games get abandoned, like many mmo/mmorpg lobbies of the good classic games.
All I can hope for is a new Elder Scrolls that would take us back into the atmosphere as Oblivion once did.
